The Summer Holiday PAT Testing Scramble
It was mid-August when the PurePAT office phone rang. On the other end was a slightly frazzled headteacher.
“I’ve just realised we haven’t booked our PAT testing yet — and staff are back next week!” exclaimed Mr Cavendish.
The PurePAT office team jumped into action.
With some clever diary juggling and a lot of teamwork, they managed to squeeze the school into the already packed summer schedule. The relieved headteacher thanked them (profusely), and Patrick, the PurePAT technician was dispatched the very next morning.
When he arrived at the quaint village school, the classrooms were quiet, the corridors echoing with the sounds of his footsteps. The few staff that were around didn’t seem particularly bothered about the testing. A couple even joked, “Does it really matter if the kettle gets a green sticker?” “More money that could go towards the children’s Spring trip!”
Patrick rolled his eyes. This was nothing he hadn’t heard a hundred times before. But he got to work, nonetheless, testing interactive whiteboards, teachers’ computers and equipment in the front office, all ready for the new school year.
As the day went on, a substitute teacher arrived for induction training. She spotted Patrick’s ID badge as he was working away and said, “Hi, I’m Miss Church. It’s good you’re getting this done. At my last school, they didn’t bother with any safety checks. One of the old projectors had a fault and ended up sparking during assembly. The deputy-head needed a fringe trim, but no one was seriously hurt! It could’ve been so much worse!”
With that comment, the mood shifted among the other teachers. Suddenly, the jokes stopped, and the staff started to see why every plug, lead, and kettle was being checked so carefully. By the end of the day, everything was labelled, logged, and ready for the new term.
Mr Cavendish was relieved, Miss Church reassured that her first term would be a safe one, and the PurePAT team was proud to have pulled everything together at short notice.
